The DESINA®-concept (DEcentralized and Standardized INstAllation technology), developed under the direction of the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (Verband der Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken, VDW), defines aspects including profiles for electro mechanic interfaces and for cable and interconnection engineering, and frequently used field components such as sensors, valves and I/O distributor modules.

Copper-based signal lines are of interest for standard applications in angle measurement engineering; fiber-optic cables are used to meet higher requirements for transmission speed and distance. Both types of lines are combined with Cu wires for power supply in a Han-Brid® connector.
