For safe communication with the control unit, the PROFIBUS - DP is designed as a redundant fibre optic ring in the multi-storey production hall. On the floors the control of the decentralized field-bus units are realised by using the Siemens model SIMATIC® ET 200X with polymer optical fibre (POF).

Together with the Siemens Profibus Optical Link Module (OLM) the HARTING Media Converter is performing the electro/optical conversion of the data signal. The Media Converter is designed with a hybrid connection technique for the optical transmission from the PROFIBUS - DP as well as the power supply with a Voltage of 24 V for decentralized peripheral devices.

In the production line of the digester for the cereals (“rice“) a hybrid installation based on cables of copper is alternatively in use. The supply for the PROFIBUS® - DP data line and the power supply of 24 V for the decentralized field-bus devices are connected in the switch cabinet by

HARTING-InduNet® components directly with the Cu/Cu hybrid wire. That makes it easy to interlink conventional and hybrid field bus installations.

The transfer rate of the Profibus is 12 Mbit/s.

Siemens SIMATIC® ET 200X Basic Module with Hybrid Interface

The SIMATIC® ET 200X with a standardized

Han-Brid® Cu interface is used as a decentralized field bus device. This field bus connection can also be used for aligning the bus line as well as the hybrid line. The hybrid line includes the power supply of 24 V for the decentralized field bus devices (switched for emergency stop / not switched for the supply for the electronics and the sensors). IP 65 active bus terminating connectors with Han-Brid® Cu interface are available to terminate the PROFIBUS network.

By decentralised installation in protection class

IP 65 the required digital and analogue I/O’s are installed nearby the application via the

SIMATIC® ET 200X. A protection against splashed water is realised by curtains. This means a reduction of decentralised control panels and terminal boxes. All connections for sensors and actuators are designed as pluggable. In case of a failure these components can be replaced failsafe and quickly by the maintenance staff.

Pre assembled hybrid cables are used to connect the decentralised field bus components.

A space-saving installation without a control panel in the machine or plant is possible by using decentralized field bus devices.
