At the beginning of the 1990s, HARTING started developing and manufacturing a new metric system for PCB connectors.

1992/93 saw the launch of the innovative “Smokythek“, an electric cigarette dispenser for retail food shops, which is well received by both the German and European markets.

On 1st September 1995, the company's 50th anniversary was celebrated in style with a special concert. Minister-President Johannes Rau was the guest speaker. Two days later, the town of Espelkamp honoured Harting by renaming a street “Wilhelm Harting Strasse“.

With effect from 23rd December 1996, HARTING was converted into a company limited by shares but with general partners (KGaA). One year later, there was another technical and visual change when the first fully electronic outdoor vending machine, “VARIOTEC“, was demonstrated to customers at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin. In 1997, the slogan, “People – Power – Partnership“ was introduced.

At the beginning of 1998, HARTING took over the site and buildings of the Picker company with a production area of around 19,500 sq. m. The same year, Dietmar and Margrit Harting were awarded the Federal Service Cross with Ribbon in recognition of all the work they do for various organisations on an honorary basis.

In 1999, the Hartings commissioned the world-famous Swiss architect, Mario Botta, to design a new distribution building in Minden. During the same year, Dietmar Harting was elected President of the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI).
